#metoo in the Indian Arts
In October of 2018, the #metoo movement in Carnatic Music flooded our social media with stories that shook our community to its core. Despite the outcry from the community to address these cracks, these issues were met with silence from those who had the power to make a change. This piece was created from the stories of the survivors, artists, and activists from the movement, with the words penned by the members of CAREspaces. It serves as a reminder of how cries for accountability, when met with inaction and silence, lend themselves to cyclical and systemic dangers.
#metoo Timeline was part one of a three-part series that contextualized the founding CAREspaces. The next two pieces that I created in this series are entitled "Reveal" and "Repair".
